The Lost Boys

Following the release of New Moon I read an article about a current vampire trend in the media. The article referenced a lot of contemporary vampires in the media, and in particular this 1987 movie The Lost Boys. It's an awesome film, I seriously love it, imagine Stand By Me and the Twilight Saga meet, throw in a couple of Hell Hounds and a Death by Stereo scene and you have The Lost Boys.

Monster In my Pocket

These guys were my childhood! Originally made by Matchbox, each fluro coloured rubber figurine represents a scary monster small enough to fit in your pocket. Amazing! These awesome guys came in single packs, packs of four and packs of twelve (I’ve even seen packs of 24 on the internet!!!)

I loved these, I remember collecting them, playing with them, even trying to use the figure trade markings on their feet to make games with them (even then I had dreams of creating my own promotion!)

After a quick MIMP Google search a full memorabilia listing reveals hundreds of products and promotions that spun off the original MIMP concept. These included a Card game, Hanna-Barbera cartoon and a Nintendo video game by Konami!!! If only my young eyes were exposed to all this as a child!!! Other promotions included many international cereal/slurpee inserts.

I remember the collectors mountain to display all your monsters, which I never got, the monster pouch was more my style back then.

Like all good things of the 90s (Ninja Turtles, Care Bears, Transformers, etc) MIMP has recently been re-done!!! This time incorporating the miniatures directly with a card game, very simular to Top Trumps (see post below) but definitely awesome, see the website, learn how to play the vard game and watch the TV ad here.

Also see new 'creators' of monster in my pocket website where you can also learn about puppy in my pocket, kitty in my pocket, pony in my pocket, jungle in my pocket, baby in my pocket, pocketville and more!

Top Trumps

Top Trumps (TT) is based on an early card game War. War was a card game for two or more players. It uses a standard Anglo-American playing card deck. TT has taken the concept and added six abilities to each card, each with a number associated with it. When it is your turn you pick an ability from your top card and read the number off it. All other players read out the same ability number from their cards, and the person with the highest ability score wins all the cards from that hand. Simple.

What makes TT so appealing is that each deck is a different licensed brands. Players can pick their favourite movie, comic, sport, etc (they even have a horses and ponies deck!!!)

The top trumps website is awesome! Register as a user, upload a photo and you even get your own personal virtual card with your photos and details on screen! Pretty cool! Users can also feel special by gaining 'stars' for each pack you buy you earn a TT Star so everyone online can see how much you love TT!

There is more! Top Trumps have recently released TT 3-D these cards have augmented reality symbols on the back, download the software from the website, show the card to your webcam and see the cards come to life!!! See the YouTube Below!!!
